Can Outdoor Beanbags get Wet?

Can outdoor beanbags get wet? Yes, Resort Style Bean Bags outdoor beanbags can get wet! You just need to ensure that you dry them out naturally in the shade, otherwise mould can develop. Outdoor beanbags have become a must-have for those seeking to add a touch of comfort and style to their outdoor spaces. They’re versatile, comfortable, and available in a variety of designs and colours.

At Resort Style Bean Bags, we offer four types of outdoor beanbags – standard, commercial, Resortella (all polyester), and 100% Solution Dyed Olefin. All these beanbags are water-resistant to some degree, but not entirely waterproof. This means they can resist the penetration of water to some extent, but not completely. But as mentioned, they can get wet, and it doesn’t really matter if water gets into the bag. The filling in our beanbags is contained in an inner bag, so you can remove the outer cover to ensure everything dries thoroughly. However, different fabrics will handle the sun, and pollution differently. Our range includes everything from high performance outdoor beanbags to beanbags that are best used indoors, but can be used taken outdoors, then put back inside.

Choosing the Right Outdoor Beanbag

Our standard fabric outdoor beanbags are suitable for indoors, or an undercover area. They have a matte canvas type finish. They are PVC backed, which gives it water-resistant qualities, making them easy to keep clean. However, if they are caught in a heavy downpour, water can seep through where the stitching and zipper are. So just be sure to take the cover off and dry it naturally in the shade.

Our commercial outdoor beanbags are 200% stronger for greater durability. They have a thicker weave, which allows more dye to be applied, making it more fade-resistant. Like the standard fabric, it’s also PVC backed, enhancing its water-resistant qualities.

Resortella is a treated polyester fabric, so water just beads off it (the feature image for this post shows Resortella and how water beads off it). It has a soft cushion finish, has a tolerance to fading, and is a great choice for outdoor cushions as well as beanbags. If you would like an outdoor beanbag in Resortella, we can custom make them to your needs – just contact us to discuss your needs.

Lastly, we have our 100% Solution Dyed Olefin beanbags. We highly recommend these if your beanbags are going to be left out in the elements. The polyester beanbags will fade quite quickly if in direct sunlight a lot of the time. Commercial beanbags will last the best of the Polyesters if exposed to the sun. All polyester beanbags will eventually fade in our sun, but lighter colours are less affected. Olefin is not affected by fading as the dye is all the way through the material.

Tips for Taking Care of Your Outdoor Beanbags

If your beanbags do get wet, you just need to ensure you remove the covers and dry them out thoroughly, otherwise, mould could develop. We recommend storing your bean bags under cover in rain to prolong their life.

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will also reduce the life of the colour of your bean bag. The darker the colour, the more susceptible it will be to prolonged direct exposure to the sun’s rays. Leaving your bean bag outdoors 24/7 will also expose it to pollution, dirt, and dust. We recommend storing your bean bag in a dry place away from sunlight when not in use.

Cleaning your bean bag is also easy. They should be stored inside or in a covered area after outside use. If you are using your bean bag near a pool, ensure you rinse it off with the hose at the end of the day, as chlorine may react with the materials & damage them. (Our Olefin range of outdoor beanbags is also chlorine resistant, so if you have a pool, we highly recommend you consider them). To clean marks and dirt, see our guide here.

Conclusion
