Can you leave Outdoor Bean Bags outside in Australia?

Outdoor bean bags are a great addition to any backyard or patio, providing comfortable seating while also adding a stylish touch to the space. One question that many people in Australia have when considering purchasing outdoor bean bags is whether or not they can be left outside. The answer is yes, but with some important caveats.

High quality outdoor bean bags like our Sunproof Olefin range are specifically designed to withstand the elements, so they can handle being left outside in the sun, rain, and even snow. However, it is important to note that not all outdoor bean bags are created equal. Some are made from materials that are more durable and resistant to the elements than others. Therefore, if you want to leave your outdoor bean bags outside, it is important to choose an outdoor bean bag that is made from high-quality, weather-resistant materials.

One of the most common materials used for outdoor bean bags is polyester. We use polyester in our standard and commercial range of outdoor bean bags. The fabric has a PVC backing which provides water resistance. Bean Bags in this fabric can be used outside, but we do not recommend leaving them outside. Given the amount of sun and heat we experience in Australia, the more sun polyester bean bags experience the quicker they will fade. Eventually, given the sun and pollutants in the air, the fabric will become brittle and likely tear.

There are also other synthetic fabrics available, like our range of Sunproof Olefin bean bags. These fabrics are designed to be quick-drying and resistant to fading, so they are great for prolonged outdoor use. They are also easy to clean and maintain, and are resistant to chlorine and salt-water, making them a great choice for outdoor bean bags, particularly for those lucky enough to have a backyard pool.

Another thing to consider when leaving outdoor bean bags outside is the environment in which they will be placed. If you live in an area that experiences extreme temperatures, like we do in Australia, or heavy rainfall, it’s important to choose a bean bag that is designed to handle those conditions. For example, if you live in a hot, sunny climate, you’ll want to choose a bean bag that is designed to be UV resistant, so that it doesn’t fade in the sun.

It’s also important to consider where you will be placing your outdoor bean bag. If it will be in a covered area such as a porch or gazebo, then it will be protected from the elements, and polyester is a viable option. However, if it will be in an open area such as a backyard or patio, it will be exposed to the elements and we would recommend bean bags made with Olefin. The main consideration is how much sun the outdoor bean bags will be exposed to.

In summary, outdoor bean bags can be left outside, but it’s important to choose an outdoor bean bag that is made from high-quality, weather-resistant materials, keeping in mind the environment it will be placed in. With the right outdoor bean bag matched to the right environment, you can enjoy comfortable seating in your backyard or patio for years to come.

We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy outdoor bean bags in Australia (& world wide!). That’s why we continue to offer bean bags in standard and commercial grade polyester. If your budget allows, we highly recommend Sunproof Olefin bean bags, but if you look after your bean bags, and store them undercover when not in use, polyester makes outdoor beanbags affordable for all.
