What Affects the Cost of Custom Outdoor Cushion Covers?

Featured image: AI-generated lifestyle illustration, not a customer installation.

Fabric is the biggest influence on the cost of our custom outdoor cushion covers. Size comes next: a larger cover needs more fabric. At Resort Style Bean Bags, your choice of piping or no piping, and the addition of ties, are free.

That makes fabric a useful starting point when comparing quotes. The lowest advertised price is only helpful once you know what material it buys and whether it includes making the cover. Here is how we help customers balance their budget with the space where their cushions will be used.

Why does fabric make such a difference to the price?

At RSBB, fabric choice creates the biggest difference between otherwise comparable cover quotes. We prefer Sunproof Olefin when the budget allows, especially for cushions exposed to sun and weather. For a protected setting, a less expensive fabric may be a suitable choice.

Our Standard, Commercial and Resortella options give customers alternatives to Olefin. Choosing between them starts with where the cushions will sit, rather than simply choosing the highest or lowest price. You can read about the options in our fabric guide.

In my view, paying more for a quality fabric suited to your space can save money over time if it means replacing covers less often. That is a reason to consider suitability and care alongside the purchase price, rather than a promise that a particular fabric will deliver a fixed saving.

A daybed cover example: four fabrics, one size

The daybed cover shown in the photograph is a “two cushions in one” design: two joined cushion sections with two zips, so each cushion insert can be inserted or removed separately. For this 180 × 90 × 8 cm cover, these are our indicative prices across four fabric choices.

One 180 × 90 × 8 cm cover: indicative September 2026 prices
Fabric Indicative cover price (AUD)
Standard $111
Commercial $200
Resortella $210
Sunproof Olefin $378

These prices are for one joined cover with two cushion sections at the stated size, not the complete daybed setting or frame. We supply covers, not foam inserts. Prices supplied by Kerry Douglas in September 2026; request a current quote for your own dimensions and requirements.

All prices include GST. Delivery is generally free for custom cushion orders; we will confirm delivery details with your final quote.

How does cushion size affect the cost?

After fabric choice, size is the next biggest influence on our cover prices: the more fabric a cover needs, the greater the cost. Compare quotes using the same length, width and depth, as well as the same number of covers.

A daybed, a seat cushion and a back cushion should not be treated as interchangeable sizes. Send the dimensions for each piece, with photos that show its shape. Our guide to measuring custom cushion covers explains the measurements to provide.

Do piping and ties cost extra?

At Resort Style Bean Bags, you can choose piping or no piping, and add ties, at no extra charge. These details are not the main cost decision in our quotes; fabric and size matter much more.

Piping is the trim along a cushion's edges. Tell us whether you want it and whether you need ties when requesting your quote, so those preferences are included from the beginning.

What should you check when comparing quotes?

Compare the fabric type, cover dimensions and quantity first, then check whether the quoted price includes both the fabric and manufacture. A low making-only price cannot be compared directly with a price for the finished cover.

One thing I advise customers to watch for is an advertised starting price that leaves out the fabric. For example, a $30 making charge plus $100 in fabric becomes a $130 cover. This illustrates the difference between a starting charge and the total; it is not an RSBB offer or a quoted price from a named supplier.

  • Confirm the named fabric, rather than comparing two descriptions that simply say “outdoor”.
  • Check that the quotes cover the same pieces and dimensions.
  • Ask whether foam is included or excluded.
  • Check GST, delivery and any finishing charges before comparing the total.

How can you keep the cost down without choosing the wrong fabric?

Our main advice is to choose a fabric that suits your space. If your cushions stay under cover and are protected from sun and weather, our other fabric options can be suitable alternatives when Olefin is outside your budget.

Be specific about the exposure when you ask us for advice. A roof overhead does not necessarily mean the cushions avoid afternoon sun or rain blowing in from the side. Describe those conditions so we can help you choose, rather than assuming every covered patio needs the same fabric.

Get a quote for your own cushions

Send us photos, the number of covers and the length, width and depth of each cushion. Let us know where they will be used, your fabric preferences and whether you would like piping or ties.

If you have a budget in mind, include it. We can discuss the options for your setting and help you compare fabric choices. Request a custom cushion cover quote to get started.
